Classification of Wire Ropes-PART 2
3. Structural Classification
Wire ropes are also categorized based on their structural composition:
-
6×7: Six strands with seven Wires each, offering high strength but lower flexibility.
-
6×19: Six strands with 19 wires each, balancing strength and flexibility.
-
6×37: Six strands with 37 wires each, providing greater flexibility but reduced abrasion resistance.
The selection depends on the required balance between strength, flexibility, and wear resistance.
4. Surface Treatment
Surface treatments enhance the rope's durability and corrosion resistance:
-
Bright (Uncoated): No additional coating, suitable for dry environments.
-
Galvanized: Coated with zinc to resist corrosion, ideal for outdoor or moist conditions.
-
Plastic Coated: Encased in plastic for added protection and visibility.
